Arson/Homicide in Patterson
July 05, 2026
On July 5, 2026, at approximately 9:47 p.m., a fire was reported at a residence in the 1100 block of Shearwater Drive in Patterson. When fire personnel arrived, they found the residence fully engulfed in flames. During the fire suppression efforts, firefighters located a deceased individual inside the home.
Fire investigators and detectives assigned to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
An autopsy is scheduled for later this week to assist determining the victim’s identity and cause of death. The investigation remains active, and no additional information is available for release at this time.

SO- East Oakdale ATV Theft

Stanislaus Sheriff Deputies are investigating a theft of an ATV that occurred in early June from a property in East Oakdale. On a separate date, another attempt to steal equipment was made. The suspect vehicle is possibly a Chevy Cobalt coupe.

Homicide Investigation in Unincorporated Modesto
June 21, 2026
On Sunday, June 21, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of River Road and Bystrum Road in the unincorporated area of Modesto following reports of an assault involving weapons.
Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male lying on the ground with at least one apparent gunshot wound. A passerby discovered the victim and began CPR before emergency responders arrived. Despite those efforts, deputies determined the victim had sustained fatal injuries and confirmed he was deceased at the scene.
Due to the nature of the incident, detectives assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Office also responded to assist. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
At this time, investigators have not identified a suspect, and no arrests have been made. Detectives are actively pursuing leads and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, observed suspicious activity in the area, or has information that may assist investigators to come forward.

Homicide Investigation in Waterford
June 16, 2026
On June 14, 2026, at about 7:24 a.m., Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive adult male in the 12300 block of Quicksilver Street in Waterford. In accordance with the Sheriff’s Office protocol, the Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
The victim was identified as Kenneth Rivera-Cruz, 35, of Waterford. This incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Oakdale Police investigators need your help. These two unidentified female suspects entered the CVS in Oakdale and stole an estimated $3900 worth of makeup products. The suspects exited the store and flood the area in a white sedan, believed to be a 2010 Mercedes-Benz. We are asking the public’s help to identify these individuals.

SO - Halloween Homicide in Empire

Shooting Homicide at Halloween Party Under Investigation
On November 1, 2025, at about 12:27 a.m., deputies with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of A Street in Empire for a report of gunfire at a Halloween party. While enroute, dispatch confirmed there were multiple gunshot victims.
Upon arrival, deputies located two adult male victims and immediately began life-saving measures. Witnesses reported that during the party, they heard gunshots and people began running from the area. Deputies were unable to locate any suspects, and those responsible remain at large.
Due to the nature of the incident, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded and took over the investigation.
Two victims were transported by ambulance to a local hospital, one remains in critical condition; unfortunately, the second victim, Juan Loaiza, a 32-year-old Hispanic male from Ceres, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. A third victim self-transported to another hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
At this time, no further information is being released as the investigation remains active.

Empire Teacher Arrested Following Investigation of Accusations by Students
On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at about 1:30 p.m. Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit investigators responded to Glick Middle School after two students reported to school officials that they were inappropriately touched by a teacher. Staff called law enforcement as soon as they received the information.
During their investigation, detectives identified Javier Villanueva, a primarily 8th grade English teacher with Empire Union School District, as the person accused of having inappropriate contact with the students. The first incident is believed to have occurred during the 2024-2025 school year, with the most recent taking place Monday, October 20th.
In collaboration with deputies and detectives from Patterson Police Services, the Special Victims Unit located and arrested 52-year-old Villanueva near his home within the city limits. He was then booked at the Stanislaus County Jail for two counts of lewd acts with a child under the age of 14. He is currently being held in custody with a $500,000 bail amount.
Detectives continued to investigate the case to determine if there are other victims and locate any additional evidence. Arson Clown Needs ID

This isn't a Halloween prank...this really happened.
The City of Turlock - Turlock Police Department is requesting any information regarding an arson that occurred on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at 2:23 AM. The suspect poured gasoline from a plastic water jug and 5-gallon bucket onto the porch and into the front window of an occupied residence. Thankfully, no occupants were harmed and the fire was extinguished within minutes.
